CHOOSE THE RIGHT INSOLES AND SOCKS

Choosing the right shoes is not the final step. Even very comfortable footwear can become a torture tool during a hard day's work if you don't complement them with suitable socks and insoles.

Read our article on how to choose socks and shoe insoles so that your feet are always snug and pain-free.

Greater comfort and odor reduction

Affordable and easy to get, insoles can significantly help with leg fatigue, back and foot pain, sweating and unpleasant odor. They can even warm you up during cold weather or, on the contrary, bring relief from the heat. At the same time, the insoles also extend the life of the shoes, making them less worn from the inside. The properties of the insoles are mainly determined by the material from which they are made, but also by their thickness and viscoelascity.

The shape of the insole should exactly copy the inside of the shoe so that they fill it, while not crumpling and folding.  To be on the safe side, always buy insoles a little larger than your shoes and adjust them to size with scissors.

And what materials can you find in shoe insoles? Specially designed for ladies’ heels, gel insoles cool and protect against burning the ball of the foot. Inserts with active carbon have an antibacterial effect and prevent odor formation. The memory foam in the insoles ensures a softer step, absorbs shocks and thus protects against leg and back pain. Insoles intended for cold weather contain an insulating insulated material (e.g. sheep's wool supplemented with aluminum foil, which reflects the cold).

In CERVA’s product range, there are several types of insoles intended primarily for occupational and sports shoes. However, be careful, keep in mind that such insoles are not intended for safety shoes - by using an insole in safety shoes (marked "SB-S5"), the shoes in question lose the guarantee of their safety properties given by the standard.

  • CURASKAPPI SUMMER 2IN1 - in one package you get two pairs of insoles specially designed for the summer season. One pair is made of textile and latex foam with the addition of activated charcoal against odor. The second pair has a fresh smell for a more pleasant feeling when wearing and is also made of latex foam.
  • CURASKAPPI MEMO – memory foam insoles adapt perfectly to your foot, reliably absorb shocks and prevent foot pain and fatigue. In addition, they are supplemented with a layer of activated carbon, which prevents the odor formation.

Do not underestimate the socks

Do not underestimate the socks

Socks that don't wick away sweat, are tight or, on the contrary, are too loose and sag, or don’t allow your toes to flex, can be a pain even in the world’s most comfortable shoe. On the contrary, those that have the right material composition and fit well are a blessing for your feet: they keep the feet dry and at a comfortable temperature, limit sweating, the foot "breathes" better in them, thus preventing odors and improving blood circulation in the feet. So what should you look out for when choosing socks?

It is essential that the sock is wide enough in the toe part. Tight socks pull the toes together, which in extreme cases can lead to a bunion. Another critical point is the hem of the sock, which must not strangle the calf. If a bruise remains on your ankle or calf after removing the sock, it means that the hem is too tight and does not allow the free flow of lymph and blood. This can worsen swelling and slow wound healing, which can be especially dangerous for diabetics.

Details such as an elastic bandage on the instep to prevent the sock from shifting in the shoe, thicker material in the toe and heel area, or on the shin for socks intended for high boots, or a layer of soft terrycloth on the foot determine the overall comfort. Seamless socks are particularly comfortable, with almost no risk of bruises and blisters.

Choose your size as carefully as you would with shoes, although the sock numbering usually includes two to three sizes. And pay attention to the height of the socks - the edge should always extend beyond the shoe due to bruises and abrasions. Therefore, always wear higher socks with boots.

The right material

Other properties of the socks result mainly from the material from which they are made. It is usually a mixture of several fibers, each of which has a role to play. The share of elastane (also known under the brand names Lycra and Spandex) is indispensable, as it gives the socks elasticity. Cotton is a natural material that is pleasant to the touch and hypoallergenic, but poorly wicks away moisture. Its properties are improved while paired with artificial fibers such as polypropylene (also known under the brand name Moira), polyamide (nylon, silon) or polyester (microfiber, Polartec, Coolmax), which almost do not absorb moisture and dissipate it well. In addition, they are strong and abrasion-resistant, so they ensure a long life of the product. Dubbed as “material of the future”, bamboo fiber is soft, breathable, excellent moisture wicking and long-lasting. In addition, it is naturally antibacterial and prevents odors formation. Another natural fiber often included in textiles is wool - breathable, antibacterial, odor-resistant and warm even when wet. Merino wool is of the highest quality. Artificial fiber acrylic has comparable properties, but unlike wool, it is flammable and does not have antibacterial properties.
