Police statistics show that fatal pedestrian accidents occur most often at night. On an unlit road, the driver does not see pedestrians, does not manage to react in time, and misfortune is imminent. If the pedestrian has no reflective element, the driver will not see them until the distance between them is 50 meters. At a speed of 60 km/h, he has only three seconds to brake or avoid the pedestrian. A simple reflective strip triples this distance – a pedestrian can be seen from 147 meters away and the driver has nine seconds to react. Visibility increases along with the size of the reflective surface, so you can see up to 289 meters in a safety vest and the driver's reaction time increases to 18 seconds.

The terms reflective and warning clothing are often confusing. Simply put, all warning clothing is reflective, but not all  reflective garments serve as warning clothing. Warning (Hi-Vis) clothes are necessary equipment, for example, for road workers, construction workers, rescue workers, garbage collectors or air personnel moving on the airport area, in short for everyone who works in an environment where it is important to be seen. EN ISO 20471 determines the form of the warning clothing: the permitted colors are fluorescent yellow and orange, which seemingly glow during the day and at dusk. In addition, they are complemented by reflective strips that increase visibility in the dark. According to the total size of the reflective surface, clothing is further divided into classes 1-3, with class 3 providing the highest level of protection.

In addition, there are garments, footwear and accessories that do not meet EN ISO 20471, either because of the basic color or the size of the reflective surface, but are equipped with reflective elements: trousers and jackets with reflective stripes, hats stitched with reflective fiber or even shoes with reflective details light.
